The Desert Cave Hotel is located in the unique mining town of Coober Pedy, in Outback South Australia. Coober Pedy is known as the Opal Capital of the World.

A real outback experience. Coober Pedy is 832km north of Adelaide and 676km south of Alice Springs. It makes an ideal stopover for travellers on the Stuart Highway between Adelaide and Alice Springs or Uluru.

How to Get to the Desert Cave Hotel

Regional Express Airlines has direct flights between Adelaide and Coober Pedy, Sunday to Friday. The flight takes around 2 hours. Airport transfers are available and can be booked with your accommodation.

Greyhound express coaches arrive daily from Alice Springs and Adelaide, many other coaches and tours pass through town. Greyhound stops at the Ampol Roadhouse in Coober Pedy.

The Historic Ghan Train. Transfers between Coober Pedy and Manguri (32km west of Coober Pedy) are available by special arrangement. Package Holidays including the Ghan train, a visit to Alice Springs/Uluru, a stopover in Coober Pedy and Regional Express (Rex) air travel to Adelaide, offers visitors an ideal way to see this great Outback region.

An 18-28 seater Coach is also available for charter from the Hotel.

All transportation requirements arranged.

The sealed Stuart Highway, linking Adelaide and Darwin, passes through Coober Pedy, giving travellers a good road and safe travelling conditions through the desert country. Petrol stops are well marked along the highway.

A Four Wheel Drive vehicle is not needed for travel on the Stuart Highway.

Visitors wishing to travel to William Creek or Oodnadatta on unsealed roads need a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle. Road condition reports are readily available and locals are happy to give advice to visitors regarding travel on outback roads.
